  1. Phlebotomist- he/she performs venipuncture, collects, labels, and transports samples for testing. 

  2. Medical Lab technician- receive, and analyze the blood/body fluid samples. Technicians locate microorganisms, perform chemical tests, match blood for transfusions, etc to determine normal and abnormal findings. There are openings under the ECHS scheme where you can work as a lab technician. 

  3. Lab manager, supervisor- supervises the daily activities in the laboratory and the work of laboratory personnel or technicians. The lab supervisor oversees that all guidelines and protocols are followed in the lab. Lab supervisors are hired under the NHMS-National Health Mission scheme.

  4. Healthcare administrator- the role includes the administration of seamless running of the procedures in a healthcare facility, coordinating roles and responsibilities of staff and the hierarchy along with vendors providing services. They provide knowledge on the step-by-step procedure to carry out various experiments.

  5. Academic trainer- In academic institutions the medical technicians are required to make sure that the equipment and materials are stocked and in working condition.

  6. Medical writer- is responsible for the creation of articles, documents, or subject matter pertaining to medical information for websites, magazines, or news agencies.

  7. Laboratory technologists- perform tests and analysis of collected samples in labs and also contribute to developing new methods of testing and analyzing procedures. A technologist supervises the work of technicians.

After a diploma course you can also opt for:

  • Degree courses after DMLT -BMLT, bachelors program which is a 3-year course. 

  • Postgraduate diploma courses- PGDMLT- 1-year course minimum qualification required is a diploma in medical laboratory technology or a bachelor's degree. 

  • One year short duration Certificate courses like certificate course in blood bank technician.
