WHAT IS DMLT COURSE


Diploma in medical laboratory technology is a 2-year diploma program that can be pursued after completing class 12. It imparts skills in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases through laboratory testing. It is a job-oriented paramedical course.





Eligibility for DMLT


  • Aspirants should have cleared class 12 in any stream to enroll in the DMLT program

  • In case you aim to become a phlebotomist, a declaration of possession of a valid Driving License is essential.

  • Already working lab technicians who are not certified in their field of work as a technician can also apply for an online program by presenting relevant work proof of at least 6 months at the time of admission. 


Duration of DMLT


  • A Diploma in lab technology is a 1-year program at Virohan with 7 months of theory and  5 months of practicals. An Advanced Diploma program is a 2-year duration program.

  • An online Diploma program is a 7-month long program in addition to the practical working experience the learner presents at the time of enrolment.

  • You can make your career as a phlebotomist with just a certificate course of 6 months in Medical Laboratory Technology or CMLT. You will be responsible for collecting, labeling, and transporting samples. 

  • Holding a diploma in this field allows you to work as a pathology technician or a hematology technician in a laboratory, hospital, or nursing homes and diagnostic centers. 

  • As you gain expertise in your field you can apply for the role of lab supervisor or lab manager.

  • Academic and technical skills can help you become a Lab information system consultant. He /She is responsible for the software analysis and management of sample tracking, resource pool planning, and laboratory informatics. 

  • You can make a career as a tutor/technician in science laboratories in educational institutions. 

  • You can also work as a Medical Writer for various magazines, journals, or medical websites contributing to well-structured scientific content.

  • Research associate to assist in medical trials or drug trials and research.


Government sector


  • There is scope for you to make your career working under the ECHS scheme for the ex-servicemen technologist or medical laboratory technician.
